A special surprise for Clementine
Clementine, our cow, gave birth to her little calf, Maja, in the meadow under the open starry sky a week ago. Did you know that cows like Clementine carry their babies in their bellies for just as long as humans - nine months? That's quite a long time, isn't it?
When Maja was born, she wanted to be close to her mom Clementine right away. As a little calf, she still needed lots of warmth and mother's milk. And you know what? Clementine always took loving care of Maja, day and night.
On this Mother's Day spring morning, there was a special atmosphere on the farm. Clementine, the mama cow, opened her eyes before her little calf, and that was something very special. Because usually, the little calf was awake before its mama.
Clementine nudged Maja, her little calf, with her nose and licked her ears gently.
Maja: "Mooommyyyy, I'm still tired!"
Clementine: "But little Maja, a new day has begun, and there's so much to discover," said Clementine lovingly.
At the same time, Monti, the dog, and Finn, the fox, walked over to the cow barn.
Monti: "Finn, I think they're already awake. Shall we go visit Maja and Clementine?"
Finn: "Yes, that will be great!" Finn replied eagerly.
And so the two of them headed to the cow barn.
Monti: "Good morning, you two! How did you sleep? How's our little calf?"
Clementine: "Thank you, both of you! We slept great. Little Maja still wants to cuddle a lot at night and sometimes gets thirsty, but that's okay. We cuddle up nicely, and the nights pass quickly. We were just about to head to the big pasture in front of the farm. Do you want to come along?"
Maja: "Oh yes, please come and let's play!" exclaimed the little calf excitedly, prancing around the cow barn on her tiny hooves.
And so the four of them set off for the pasture in front of the farm. Monti noticed that Clementine looked a bit tired and had an idea.
Monti: "I forgot something in the barn," she said and rushed off to prepare a surprise.
And so there was a commotion in the cow barn for a whole hour. Bang, clatter... from the outside, you would have thought a whole parade was passing by. But nobody left the barn. Monti must have been inside, bustling around. "Phew, I think I'm ready now!" said the dog proudly to herself. And at the same moment, she picked up speed again to visit the others in the pasture and present them with the surprise.
Monti brought Finn, Clementine, and Maja back to the cow barn. And the moment Clementine saw the barn, her eyes widened with warmth and gratitude.
Monti had tidied up the entire barn and built a cozy bed out of straw. She had also decorated the barn with flowers and brought fresh water and Clementine's favorite carrots.
Monti said to her friend Clementine: "Dear Clementine, I noticed that despite all your energy, you're very tired. And I know you never ask for help and that your little treasure means everything to you. So I wanted to surprise you with an idea that would help you out. We see what a wonderful and loving mother you are. To raise a baby, it takes a whole farm, and we're all here to help you."
Maja jumped into the wonderful bed and exclaimed, "Mom, it's so cuddly soft!"
Clementine was speechless. Silently, she went to her friend Monti and licked her ears gratefully.
And so the four friends played until dusk. As the sun dipped below the horizon, Clementine and Maja went to their rearranged barn and nestled into the cozy bed of straw and hay.
One thing was clear: Maja still wanted to cuddle a lot and have a little milk, but all the nights were more pleasant and cozier than before.
And that's where our story ends for today.
